Letters, not brands

Medigap’s genius is standardization: choose a letter and you know exactly what’s covered, regardless of which company sells it. Plan G is the default for most new enrollees — it covers nearly everything except the small annual Part B deductible. Plan N trims the premium with minor copays. Plan F (now closed to newcomers) covered everything. High-deductible G offers the lowest premium for healthy people willing to self-fund a deductible first.

Good to know

FAQs

What's the difference between Plan G and F?

F covers the Part B deductible; G doesn't. F is only available to pre-2020 enrollees.

What does Plan N save?

Lower premiums in exchange for small copays and not covering excess charges.

What is high-deductible G?

Same coverage as G but you pay a high annual deductible first for a much lower premium.

Is coverage really standardized?

Yes — a plan letter covers the same benefits at every insurer.
